review for 212,133 East 65 Street,New York, Tracking down trendy places in New York is very difficult. New Yorkers (or Manhattenites in particular) are very fickle so you really have to make your own mind up but I trawled around until I found this place and from the description it seemed to fit the mould.

Trendy, “in place”. It’s got a Euro feel to it which may seem odd if you’ve just travelled to the states from Europe but it’s nonetheless an attractive place.

Not huge but the attractive friendly staff were very helpful on our visit although since we’d been celebrating my birthday for a couple of days I was a little worse for wear and perhaps one of the other boys should describe the rest of the evening. Perhaps without incriminating/embarrassing me too much!! Food was good (wasn’t it boys?….), the service fine and the bill not in the least extravagant.

Downstairs there is a small bar with a selection of vodkas and a friendly bar maid. Whose name I have forgotten but was also quite cute. Points to note are the crowd when we went were pretty good looking and WYD was riding fairly high. There’s an exposed terrace which is nice in the summer.

And the reason it’s called 212? The area code for NYC.

Paul..
I'm surprised that Karim can remember anything about this place. It was his birthday (or day N of it), and he was v.v.drunk :-) Luckily I have photgraphic evidence, err, I mean records of our visit.

Very attractive staff, but I felt (mildly) sorry for the poor chap who had to look after our table: it was his first day on the job. A good job done considering it was a baptism of fire!

Food was good, but not outstanding. Very popular place - it was packed - full of guys with extremely expensive suits on dates, families and one table of very loud drunks. No, wait - that was us. Downstairs you'll find a small but friendly bar - upstairs another, but designed more as a dispense bar.

From vague recollection we spent about $90 per head, including (lots of) drinks, so not too expensive.

Final Word: Smart restaurant, beautiful staff and good, affordable food. Like it.

+ V.attractive staff, good service
- We don't like places that add the tip then expect more service on top
