review for Les Bain Douche,7 Rue du Bourg-l'Abbe,Paris, Karim..

Ok I was warned about Les Bain Douche. I was warned that it was possibly the hottest place in town. Actually ManRay was also mentioned but I didn’t go there, did go here and hence this is the review your getting. Get it!!!?

I was also warned that the door policy here makes it as tough to get in as to break into Fort Knox. Basically I’m saying it is tough!

If you happen to be gorgeous and dressed to kill I think this may be less of an issue. However, I look in the mirror every morning and I really don’t think I have the legs for it, even if I did shave them. When Steve and I arrived, it already had a queue building up outside (around mid night). To their credit, in Europe there is a certain amenable attitude towards people who make an effort in dressing up. I don’t mean this British preoccupation with shirts hanging out of trousers, I mean dressing up. Shirt, jacket, clean shoes and may be even a tie. A well placed phone call before hand probably helped but is no guarantee. Either way, Gucci and Versace are made for nights like this. And it was with this attitude that we walked up to the door man. He didn’t check the guest list but escorted us inside, neatly by passing the entire queue! Mission accomplished. It was with this first obstacle over come that the rest fell neatly into place. No queue for us, followed by free entry and then shown directly to the VIP area. Erm, and there I was worried that I hadn’t flossed!?

The club itself is split into several areas but all are party filled. The VIP area was calmer and introduced us to the clientele here. The moment Steve and I strode in it was as if the piano player had stopped playing and everyone in the bar was checking us out. Being scrutinised so carefully did not help our up til that point bloated egos. Nothing a swift Jack Daniels couldn’t repair.

The building originally had been a municipal bathhouse (hence the name) but had been converted into a club that had been on top form for the last decade and a half. The rich and famous and infamous have found themselves here over the years and many Hollywood types in their visits to Paris to plug a new movie have frequented Les Bain Douche. So it has always had an impressive curriculum vitae.

Down stairs you’ll find the main dance floors and an impressive sound system. You can even see the old baths, which are now a convenient little area.

The crowd is great and the atmosphere so different from UK clubs. Definitely different and definitely worth a visit. If you didn’t bother with a hotel you could potentially get the next train home to London as the club does not shut until 6am! Take note Sunday night is gay night so erm I guess take note. Other nights of the week are music focused but I’ve only done the weekend here so you are on your own on a school night.

Final Word: Super cool night club with years of attracting the finest looking locals into a culb with quite a reputation and quite a sound system. If you can get in then that is an achievement in itself.

+ Super super cool crowd
- Harder to get into than a birthday party at Madonnas house

Member Pic I went to Paris for the first time, just out of college, in 1979. I found some punk-rockers on the Champs Elysee and asked them in my best broken French, "Ou dancer?" [ where can I dance?] They said "Bains Douche" and I eventually found myself there (after navigating very sketchy streets that turned out to be Pigalle where all the hookers stood in doorways as creepy men milled about). Anyhow, I got into the club - somehow, since I was definitely not very cool, more like a backpacker - and it was such an amazing place: beautiful lighting and giant balls decorating the baths, great dance floors and music. I met an Algerian boy with pointed leather shoes and a narrow lapel jacket and we were very cool together ... Went home with him and didn't leave till the summer was over and I was fluent in French... Great memories!

Member Pic hard to get in? higly doubtful. i waltzed through the door with a group of 8 people (which, FYI is impossible to do in any club in Paris worth mentioning). this club was crap. poor sound system and people who are 30 years late on the hotspots in Paris. the music is much too commercial, unless you enjoy grooving to the exhausted beats of Beyonce.... SO lame, i can't believe i paid 20 euros when the parisparis would have been free AND loads more fun.
