review for Jaiya,396 3rd Avenue,New York, I know that a lot of people have a problem with Jaiya. It's small, looks kind of 'old' and the service is, well let's say variable, to be generous. That said, this place still remains popular after all these years - for one simple reason: the food.

For anyone who has eaten anything other than bland Westernised Thai food, you'll be pleased to find some great proper spicy dishes - especially a lot of the fish dishes.

If you can go early, or are prepared to wear the service and crush, Jaiya is definitely worth a look if you fancy some decent Thai food. If I get the time, I always seem to end up here at least once on every New York visit.

Final Word: Jaiya offers something that a lot of Thai restaurants in the US fail to: proper spicy Thai food, rather than bland westernised versions of said dishes. It is small though, and gets very busy, so you may feel rushed or squashed.

+ Authentic, spicy Thai food.
- Service can be rushed and it gets packed. Doesn't look great (but the food's good!)
